Usha in Stratford-upon-Avon has been nominated by local MP Nadhim Zahawi to take part in the prestigious Tiffin Cup competition, in search of the best South Asian restaurant in Britain. Following the success of the Tiffin Cup 2013, MPs have been asked to nominate a restaurant in their constituency for the title of best South Asian restaurant in the country in this mouth-watering competition. The Tiffin Cup - which has now been running for 9 years - is awarded every year by the Tiffin Club of MPs, formed in 2006 by Michael Fabricant MP, Keith Vaz MP and former MP John Barrett. Last year 83 restaurants were nominated from around the UK. The aim is not only to applaud the quality of South Asian food in Britain but also to raise much needed money for charity. This year the competition is in aid of the charity World Vision, which works with the world’s poorest communities to tackle the root causes of poverty and improve the lives of children. Within the next couple of months a team of mystery diners will eat at each the nominated restaurants and judge them on the following categories: food, ambience, location, taste. The Grand Final of the Tiffin Cup 2014 is to be held in the House of Commons on Tuesday 8 July 2014. Nadhim said: ‘I’m delighted that the nomination for Usha has been accepted and that they will be taking part in this year’s Tiffin Cup. Usha is a great local business with a long history in Stratford. When I’ve visited I’ve been extremely impressed, both by the food and the welcome. I very much look forward to welcoming them to the House of Commons should they win their regional heat. I know everyone in Stratford will be rooting for Usha to become Tiffin Cup Champions!’
