The Members of Parliament for Bromsgrove, Redditch and Stratford-on-Avon have secured discussions with the Health Secretary and Chief Executive of NHS Improvement to hear at first-hand about plans for transformation of Worcestershire Acute Trust. After raising concerns and gaining the support of the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid, Karen Lumley and Nadhim Zahawi have pushed to secure the offer of a briefing from NHS Improvement - the authority responsible for turning around the Trust which runs the Alexandra Hospital. At the meeting, due to take place early in the New Year, Jim Mackey, Chief Executive of NHS Improvement, will present turn-around plans to all local MPs. The Secretary of State for Health, The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, said: “Sajid, Karen and Nadhim have highlighted directly with me some of the ongoing issues with healthcare locally. I’m therefore pleased to bring together this purposeful discussion. It will be an extremely useful forum to have an open and honest discussion about how best to improve patient care.” Rt Hon Sajid Javid, MP for Bromsgrove, commented: “Trust transformation is going to need careful navigation, so we have to make sure all plans and discussions are open and frank. I will be reporting back directly to my constituents on this urgent process”. Karen Lumley, MP for Redditch said: “I’m pleased we have secured this meeting. It’s good news that the Health Secretary is listening and is fully on board. We are working together as local MPs to get the health security new mums and patients need”. Nadhim Zahawi, MP for Stratford-on-Avon said: “Services at the Alexandra Hospital affect all of our constituents. As local Members of Parliament we all have the same objective on this: safe local service that our constituents can trust and rely on”.
